While playing bass in several Minneapolis bands spanning over two decades, Jason Streitz quietly wrote country, bluegrass and folk songs in his spare time. These songs, along with a handful of new tunes would become the foundation for The Long Odds.

In October of 2016 the band recorded their first full length album with engineer Nick Tveitbakk at the renowned Pachyderm Studios in Cannon Falls, MN. Level Ground was released in the winter of 2018 with special guest, fiddle player Allie Kral (Yonder Mountain String Band).

In August of 2019 Jason moved with his family from Minneapolis to the north woods of Wisconsin where they now own and operate a small pottery business out of an old 1921 schoolhouse. Performing as J Streitz and the Long Odds (or J Streitz when solo), the band has completed their second full length album. Light Again was recorded at Zoo School Studio in St Croix Falls, WI and was released in August 2024.

J Streitz and the Long Odds have shared the stage with a wide range of national and regional acts including Sarah Shook and the Disarmers, Nathan Kalish, Invisible Boy, Kind Country, Gabe Barnett and Them Rounders, Bruise Violet, Jay Lenz (Pert Near Sandstone) at prominent midwest venues such as The Parkway Theater, Turf Club, Hook & Ladder Theater, Park Center Theater Icehouse, Lee’s Liquor Lounge, The Cabooze, Animales BBQ, The Aster Café and Brickyard Pottery & Folk House. Jason has been a guest on the Mad Ripple Hootenanny, hosted by Jim Walsh. He has opened as a solo act for several bands including David Huckfelt, Annie Humphrey and Turn Turn Turn and has appeared as a guest on the podcast “Glad You’re Here” with Grant Glad, the Wisconsin Public Radio program “Simply Superior” hosted by Robin Washington as well as Adventures in Americana’s “The Hook” with Andy Ellis.

J Streitz and the Long Odds are a Minneapolis based Americana band with a second home in the north woods of Wisconsin. While most of the group calls Minneapolis home, former Mill City resident, singer/songwriter Jason Streitz currently resides in Shell Lake, Wisconsin where he lives with his family and operates a small pottery business, art gallery and live music listening room out of an old one-room schoolhouse. Rural living has afforded Streitz a new perspective. Simultaneously missing city life while enjoying the calm of the woods, Streitz crafted this new batch of songs that has morphed, with full band contributions, into Light Again, the band’s second full length album.

Although classic country and folk music remain foundational in Streitz’ songwriting, he’s clearly not afraid to surrender to the pull of a new song in any direction. Accompanied by an equally versatile band, Streitz crafts poetic puzzles for the listener to find meaning in, as displayed in the title track “Light Again” and “Was Always in Motion” - while concurrently penning the more traditionally anchored rock number “Sleeping In”. Light Again is an attempt to navigate peacefully through disarray.
